It's true that the Wizardry_4 disk image allows you to get past this by just entering four lowercase letter o's. Here are a few examples of the random spells that are displayed. I tried DOSBox with Wizardry 1 just to see how it worked and quickly said no way. I'd love to play these scenarios, but don't want to go down the path of getting it running on some clunky emulator. The very sad thing about this version is that I don't believe they ever released wizardry 2 or 3 on the Mac, so it's a dead end. Makes it a bit easier to survive until your first level gain. Graphics are certainly a lot better than the old Apple ]There are some subtle changes from the Apple ]I think some of the monsters may be treated differently than the Apple ]Another difference is that all characters start with 8 HP.

Although you can do anything with the mouse, can fly through the maze and battles with keyboard commands. You can open a separate moveable window for each character's stats, and leave it open while you go through the maze and fight. It's probably one of the most playable version. I feel like I'm the only one who's ever used it. I have yet to see any other reference to it.

I've been revisiting it the past couple weeks for the first time in about 10 years, and browsing lots of Wizardry websites during that time.
